Yvonne Shurelds was born to Helen , and the late “L.V.” Shurelds on December 25th, 1949 in Lima, Ohio. She is the third oldest of eleven children, all of whom she loved dearly.
Yvonne attended Lima Senior High School, and she had dreams and aspirations of attending college one day. However, those dreams were forever changed when she became a mother to Marquette and Wendy Shurelds. Although, a teenaged mother and a single parent, Yvonne still possessed a strong desire to be successful in life. Through hard work and determination, Yvonne raised her two kids while maintaining and keeping a full time job. During this time period, she dedicated her life to Christ, and instilled the importance of Christ into their lives. She taught her children to be hard working, strong, never give up, and staying true to God.
Family and friends have always played a significant and prominent role in Yvonne’s life. If she was not working, then she was most likely with a member of her family. Helen, Yvonne’s mother, was always near and dear to Yvonne’s heart, and she would do anything within her power to ensure her happiness. Her mother Helen and Skip (sister), her best friends and constant companions was always near by for any and all occasions. Yvonne’s love and concern for her Brother Red was always apparent, and only wanted the best for him, as she did for her entire family.
Yvonne’s contagious laughter was responsible for so many being drawn to her: In her spare time outside of work Yvonne enjoyed shopping, especially bargain shopping. With interior design being her passion she enjoyed helping her family and friends decorate their homes. Aside from the love and devotion she had for her dog Behr. She treated Behr as a second son as if he was human. As well as collecting antiques and elephants, Yvonne loved clothes and fashion. She was a woman of elegance in her style, grace, and presence.
Yvonne had a strong belief in working hard and rarely missed a day’s work. She was employed at RCA Corporation for 32 years and DTR Industries for the past four years until her untimely death. She was a loyal friend and employee to her co-workers and she was loved by everyone she met. Yvonne’s life and smile touched many people and anyone that she encountered was proud to call her a friend. She was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist church where she served on the Usher board. She will truly be missed by her brothers and sisters in Christ.
On Saturday March 8, 2008, Yvonne was called home and enters the gates of heaven where she joined her beloved father LV Shurelds and sister Carol Faye Shurelds whom preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories, strength and wisdom her mother Helen Shurelds of Lima, Ohio; her devoted children Marquette Shurelds of San Francisco, CA., Wendy Shurelds of San Diego, CA., Behr (dog) Shurelds of Lima, Ohio; Three (3) beautiful grandchildred O’Sheena Shurelds, Akiera Shurelds and DaJaan Mark; Five (5) sisters Bonnie “Skip” (Frank) Perkins of Aniston.
